Law 25 in Quebec refers to the Law concerning the protection of personal information in the private sector. This law aims to regulate the collection, use, disclosure, retention, and disposal of personal information by private sector businesses in Quebec. It establishes the rights of individuals regarding their personal information and the obligations of organizations that process them, particularly regarding privacy and data security. Law 25 includes provisions on personal information governance, the rights of data subjects, management of privacy incidents, consent requirements, and sanctions for non-compliance. Its main objective is to protect individuals’ privacy while enabling businesses to collect and use personal information responsibly and legally.
